Hi everyone..

I got the shock of my life today when i turned my chicken over onto her back and found out all her body underneath was BALD! She is a pekin bantam, with very short legs! i dont understand why shes bald as our other pekin isnt bald, maybe her underneath dragging along the grass making her loose feathers? literally she looks like she has been PLUCKED! You cant see it over her other feathers but you can feel it when you pick her up. it doesnt seem to affect her.. but im jut curious why this is happening?.. Hmm.

Could she be broody?. I have one who looses her tummy feathers when she is broody ,she pulls them out to line a nest. Well until i catch her and put her in the broody cage.

I dont think so .. i haven't seen alot of feathers about, but she is bald! will she get cold?

my pekin/brahma cross is the same! her belly is completely bald but she has lined the nest with the feathers and is definately broody

Sometimes they get bald bellies if they nestle rather than perch in the house

i think its because she doesnt use the roosting bars..

should i be worried?
