Incubator Hatching

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Im having my first go at hatching our Aylesbury eggs in a small brinsea incubator for the first time (I've got a Buff Orpington, Khaki Cambell and also an Aylesbury sat independantly on their "Egg Mountains" - the nests are just amazing!!) all the eggs have a wonderful Aylesbury drake as the Dad. Unfortunately I must be doing something wrong with my incubator because my first 2 ducklings started hatching but their eggs got stuck to them and despite me trying to assist both died which is very sad and upsetting. The same incubator hatched little chick eggs brilliantly recently. I've candled the rest of the eggs and they all have life inside them. Can somebody please give me some advise what to do so the rest of my ducklings don't suffer the same fate? Hope to hear from you. Thanks Tommy G.

Are they all in the same incy?

Ducklings take longer to hatch (you probably know :) ) and also need a higher humidity - some people also cool the eggs for a while and then spray them with water to stimulate the duck getting off and coming back from the pond.

The extra humidity will soften the membrane and allow them to hatch.

What is the humidity at? You might want to increase it, and try to keep the incy shut to keep the humidity up :D

Thanks for the reply - it makes sense.

I'll check the little water bowl in the inc. and also give the eggs a spray and then leave it and see if that makes things better. Because the egg shell stuck to the ducklings and they looked gooy and sticky I didn't know if I'd got it too wet in the inc. but your explanation makes sense. I'll report back in 2 or 3 days time. Thanks again Tom.
