madamding
Sorry, I am a complete novice. We're hopefully getting some chickens in the next week or two, I am new to this, husband isn't and my mother-in-law lives with us and she's had chooks all her life. What I was wondering is what it would be like to put Warrens or RIRs in with Pekin Bantams? Recipe for disaster?
jellykelly
Well, for the last three days my lot have all been living together. My pekins and dutch bantam decided to take it upon themselves to pack up their belongings and move in with the big girls! I have quite a mix ranging from the huge Cochin to the little teeny dutch and they all get along just fine - however they were two seperate flocks, with seperate living arrangements but used to free range together. So, they were more then used to each other when they decided to 'move in'. I'm not entirely sure how it would work if you were to buy banties and bigger birds at the same time and put them together - but I'm sure someone will be along to help in a mo! sparkysmum
Hi my pekins are happy with my other ladies and spend most of each day around each other. However they don't house share. I couldn't ask this of my bigger hens!
Space Chick
This could be dangerous, as whilst Pekins are feisty they are much smaller than large fowl. It is possible, as others have said, but it tends to need slow and patient introductions, and you should be prepared to have 2 separate flocks. In saying this, I have small girls in with big girls, we've had some problems, but now they are one flock, but its taken time and patience
