joza2210
As most of you know i have a trio of japanese and both of my hens have gone broody ... But for some reason out side They are sat next to each other and are under shelter ... but the thing is they are on grass ... What should i do and will the eggs even hatch on grass ? Thanks
l_ouise
I don't think lawn is a good nest. I think eggs need air circulation and more consistant moisture and heat levels. On lawn the under side will get no air, be pressed against the cold ground and even though it is sheltered the moisture levels within the soil can still fluctuate a lot. Redwing
its not ideal for them to be broody outside - are you sure there isnt a red mite problem thats making them avoid the coop? Actually turf is an excellent base for a nest, people used to use (and probably still do) bits of turf to line broody nests
