chuckmum6
My broody pekin has been sitting for a week now is this the time to candle the eggs? Will a torch be ok and is it best done in a darken room? I have two other hen who are broody now fighting a battle of regular eviction with them I don't want more broodies!!! Redwing
yes you can candle the eggs now Any time from four days in is fine but to be absolutely sure if you dont know what you are looking for then candling at seven days is ideal It needs to be done in a darkened room so you can see the egg contents, an LED torrch with a small end is perfect - if you have a larger torch then tape or hold it against a loo roll tube and hold the egg against the other end of the tube - carefully - this takes some co-ordination Always candle at the blunt end of the egg and not for very long due to the heat of the torc At seven days you should see a dark spot and some red veins
