Minkey
Sorry probably a stupid question from a beginner but do you need grit & oyster shall or will oyster shell on it's own do? Is it best to add it to the food or put it in a seperate dish? Thanks, Minkey
Egluntyne
Hens need the flint based grit to grind up the food. The oystershell is a source of soluble calcium. Some folk give just the flint grit as they don't like to overload the hens with calcium and upset the balance with other elements such as phosphorus. Whichever you give, you can either put it in a pot from which they can help themselves, or scatter it on the ground. Some mix it with the food. Plum
Hi, I put mixed poultry grit (with both in) in a parrot pot which is near the food and they just help themselves if they need it. Just need to protect it from getting wet.
