txswanie
Hi, I got my 2 ginger girls from Omlet today and one of them has a very short upper beak. It makes her look like she is snarling. Is this just overclipping or something else? Will it grow back? Does it affect her eating, drinking and defending herself? She is a very quiet little thing and not at all pushy at the food /water dishes. there was also an egg in the transport box. Is this normal for pullets? thanks. Blue-DiamondChick07
All my Rangers had strange beaks, but they are pretty much back to normal now. they do sort themselves out with a bit of pecking about as long as they're feeding and drinking well, its fine. Not sure about the random egg though, maybe someone can shed some light on that
Egluntyne
I think in the US that beak clipping is commoner than here, so maybe your girl has had hers trimmed. One of my hens had a much shorter top beak when she arrived ( not from Omlet), and it evened out over time. Sounds like one of them has come into lay. txswanie
thanks, the beak thing is very weird, hope it grows back in ok. I have been hanging around the garden all day like an over anxious mother, they are probably sick of the sight of me. Nothing too violent so far just the odd peck and jostling at the food and water. I have been replacing the grass today. They mashed it in 2 weeks!!!! I suspect a regular trip to the turf supplier will be in order. Not really looking forward to bedtime. Fingers and toes crossed. Poor little stumpy beak Lucy, she is so quiet.
