ladyjulian
There's one mangy fox which has been on a mission for our quail recently. He ignores the chickens, and just before 5am in the mornings he's been coming up to Chateau Quail and pawing at the mesh. Despite drowning the entire area in Scoot fox repellent, and moving Chateau Quail right up to the house - this fox is just not scared. Chateau Quail is fox proof, but it makes a racket and terrifies the tribbles, so I've been getting up and going out to chase him off. The other night I chased him off, went back inside and in the few seconds it took me to go to the loo he was back and one of the quail had managed to get its head outside the mesh to see what was going on. We dashed back outside but it was too late - one headless quail. Beloved Cohab spent last night constructing Fortress Quail to cut off foxy access to Chateau Quail. I think it needs a portcullis. Sure enough, 4.53 this morning: rattle, tap, rattle, plink, rattle. I got up to have a look, and found confused fox unable to get through, and he just slunk away. Result. xScrunchee
Aah, shame about the beheading but the new safety measure looks great. Really good idea. Hopefully he will clear off now he can't get to them!!
