Duck Egg Shells ...

Recommended Posts

Didn't know wether to put it here or in eggs ...

Does anyone have problems with weak/thin duck shells?

Jemima has been laying for quite a while so its not that she's getting into the swing of it, but the eggs don't crack very well.

If you crack them on the side of a bowl the shell cracks and breaks away but the membrane stays there, its really wierd

I just use a knife now.

They're on layers and mixed corn (same as the chickens) and have tried limestone flour but still the same.

Same here

Takes a strong arm to crack a duck egg shell. Very thick shells and thick membranes. When cracking raw the knife is handy but with boiled eggs I use a wee teaspoon to go under the eggshell once I have cracked it all over - works wonders. :D
