Hi,

 

At the moment, all my eggs are kept in the fridge, however, I rather fancy the look of an egg skelter but wouldn't fit this in the fridge.

 

Stupid question, but should or should not, eggs be kept in the fridge?

 

Also, how long do the eggs stay fresh for in general and does it make a difference if they have been refrigerated?

i have recently got an egg holder that doesn't fit in the fridge so i googled the matter.

 

Keep them point-ways down this way they will keep longer but the ones in the shops have been out of the fridge for at least 3 weeks before they even reach the non-fridge shelves so I think either way and you'll be safe for at least a month!

I never keep eggs in the fridge. I use an egg skelter which makes it easy to store and use eggs in the order of freshness.

No need to refrigerate eggs, in fact as the shells are permeable they'll pick up any strong flavours present in the fridge... imagine stilton/garlic flavoured eggs...

 

We have ours in a wire hen egg basket, called Rosa, who sits in the kitchen looking happily full Always a sad sight in winter though when the eggs supplies run low, then spring heralds a significant amount of egg-dancing as Rosa is filled up again

Up to 18 days out of the fridge. I've never put mine in - they get eaten before then!

I use an egg skelter also, works well for me. Before I got chickens I used to put eggs in the fridge and sometimes found that I forgot I had eggs...on the skelter you can see them which reminds me I have eggs and I tend to use them more...I even find things that I need to use them for...thinking of buns for this afternoon Just had fried egg sandwich for lunch

I use an egg helter skelter as well - looks on the worktop and as dannablue says you don't forget about them!

 

Never worried about shelf life cos mine don't hang around long enough, but interesting to find out as I'm hopefully getting 4 more soon so eggs maybe around longer

Yup, that just about says it word for word what happens here... Except ours isn't called Rosa, not a clue what it is called but it ain't Rosa.
