Miss Moneypenny
Hello everyone, One of my girls tried to lay her first egg last night but it was a soft shell and was a gooey mess in the nest this morning... They eat Omlet layers pellets and I give them Chicken grit, should I be concerned at this early stage about getting more calcium into her? Do the pellets not contain enough calcium on their own for some hens? I have another hen laying beautifully... Thanks for any advice, I've only been a hen keeper for three weeks but loving it! sewitall
My ginger nut laid a softie, 2 normal and then another softie. They are just getting into the swing of laying so I would say nothing to worry about at this early stage. I would only be concerned if all her eggs were softies. Purplemaniacs
One of my new girls who has been laying for 2 weeks has laid 2 softies, both very early in the morning. It is as if the egg came too quickly to be formed properly. Others that she lays are fine. Chrissie
