chooklady
I rescued a beautiful baby Robin a couple of years back we were on the way to school and it was sitting in the middle of the road and we saw several cars pass straight over the top of it. We held the traffic up and popped it into the nearest safe looking front garden behind a small wall and wished it luck!! My neighbours all call me the bird lady, they all knock on my door when there is a bird that needs 'saving'. At our previous house I rescued a Kingfisher from my neighbours cat and it was fine after a few hours resting and some whitebait I had in the freezer! I couldn't leave that one to fate but most of the time it is better just to leave the bird alone and let nature takes it's course however cruel it may seem. lillybettybabs
Our blackbird flew the nest at the weekend, all apart from one where practicing to fly in our smaal garden at the side of our house. One was being constantly fed by it's parents but made no attempt to fly. Sadly i found it dead Monday morning there must have been something wrong. very sad
Old Speckled Hen
We had a camera in the swift box last year and the two fledgelings are abandoned by the parents when it is time. The parents just go............. I didn't know this and sought advice as I thought they were doomed. The youngsters tip out of the nest maybe two days later when they realise there is no more food to be had. Having never flown before they feed for some time, fly South guided by instinct and never touch land till they die..........magic!!!! Olly
Just bumping this thread, as there's been a query about baby birds - it might be useful to others at this time of year.
Alis girls
i am ashamed to say my ginger cat has found a nest and killed several baby birds this week. have kept him at night (always do) and some of day but he sneaks out. I have no idea where the nest is, either a blackbird or robin. i know its nature but was cross with him
