hunkydoory Posted May 26, 2010 Share Posted May 26, 2010 Well after posting in early April about my psycho chicken (Betty) who did not take well to her run mates repalcements (2 lovely POL Red Islands; full scale warfare, moved into the garage and refused to be in the same run - get the picture?) She fell of this mortal perch last week. I found her in a state of collapse just before her bedtime, she had lost the use of her legs and as I picked her up her bowls also As I carried her to a nice box of straw she parted with a good peck My new girls haven't laid yet (about 26 weeks and just starting to see a change in comb colour). Having had 2 chicks together on 2 previous ocassions I decided that 3 would be a better number (if one goes then no new introductions necessary). Time was of the esscence. I bought a beautiful Pied Sulfolk who is of a similar age. After some initial unpleasantnessPecky, Cookie and Totty are all living happily ever after. Yesterday morning Totty (Pied Sulfolk) laid her first 'small but perfectly formed' egg at about 4cms from base to top. And again this morning the same. meezers Posted May 26, 2010 Share Posted May 26, 2010 Aw, poor Betty, you did make me smile though at her departing peck, feisty to the last, off to boss them around in chook heaven ( or I suppose it could be chook hell if you were the chook being bossed ) Good idea to get a 3rd chook,and perfect timing with the eggs, any pictures ? One of our newbies, Rocky, has been laying since we got her, more and more frequently, but only a couple of days ago did we finally get one big enough to stay in the egg rack!
