Hatching Call Ducks Under A Broody Hen

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Our Buff Orpington went all broody on us and refused to come out of her nesting box for 2 weeks, despite our best efforts to deter her. Eventually, we gave in and decided to get some fertile eggs and see if we could get her to incubate them.

We sourced 6 Call Duck eggs which she has been sitting on for almost 2 weeks now. With 2 weeks to go, and no duck experience, we are needing all the advice we can get.

Our broody has her own hut on our front lawn. Although she can come and go as she pleases, we will adding a vermin proof run this weekend to protect her and her eggs/ducklings!!

Should any or all of these eggs hatch, how do we go about rearing our new family!!

All advice very much appreciated.

Regards, fujcube

Hi my broody hatched me out 4 ducklings you dont need to do much as she will look after them just make sure they have chick crumb and water also when they are a couple of days old you can give them a paint roller tray to swim in it helps them water proof themselves by 3 weeks old mine are in kids paddling pool if you have other ducks and chickens you will need to keep them seperate for a while as they will be attacked my broody stayed with her ducklings until they were 6 weeks old and then got fed up and went back with the chickens hope this helps abit leanne.
