I've got 3 hens who are now approx 10 months old. Two of them have been laying daily since January. My rhode-island hen has never laid an egg - is it possible to get a barren hen? Or do some hens just take a long time to lay? (I understand rhode-islands to be a good laying breed). She seems perfectly happy and healthy in herself so I'm not too worried...it would be nice to have her eggs though!

I think you *can* get a barren hen but also, some breeds take longer to come into lay. My Light Sussex hybrid started laying 10 WEEKS after my Black Rock My Black Rock hardly misses a day but my Sussex Star is a bit laid back and lays when she feels like it

My first columbine never laid an egg at all and she must have been a year old when she died (fox not illness), we would have loved an egg, but she was a great character!

I'm beginning to think that one of mine will never lay. I've had her since 15/03 and she was supposed to be 20+ weeks then. From the start she has had a beautiful big red comb but no crouching and no eggs. She is lovely to look at though.
