Is your dog's unusual barking a secret code for something mysterious?

Hi All

 

I am new to chicken keeping and the Forum but am finding it really helpful with so much stuff but I need your help.

 

We are raising our girls from chicks, we have 3 RIR's (although I strongly suspect one of these is a Cockerel), 1 Light Sussex and the cutie pie of the bunch is our Barnevelder, they are currently about 8 - 9 weeks old and we started putting them in the cube run about 10 days ago but at night I continued to bring them indoors. They have spent the last 2 nights over night in the cube but I had to pick them up and put them in the cube becuase they have not yet even attempted to jump the ladder and go to bed!!! I have tried the torch idea and a little temptation with no success.

 

Any suggestions? I know it is early days yet but any hints to help them want to settle down in the cube at night would be appreciated.

What about a brick or two at the bottom of the ladder to help them onto the bottom rung

Thanks Plum, that sounds like a good idea because they have just used my daughter as a stepping stone so the bricks may be more practical although it was very funny seeing Katie with 3 chickens sitting on her head!!!
