Sacrificial Plants

Recommended Posts

We have masses of ladies mantle in the garden, too much actually. We have a bare patch in a border and so decided to move some there. The girls have pretty much scoffed the lot  They hadn't touched it before and the masses that we haven't transplanted is untouched  We thought the moving it would be safe but at least we didn't have to buy it so I guess it was a sacrificial plant

From my experience it wont matter haw many sacrificial plants you put in, they will finish them all and then finish the rest of your precious plants. Most Omleteers seem to sacrifice part of their garden, perhaps a shrubby area with bare soil below, to the chooks, and grow plants elsewhere. This is what I have done, which means they have a much smaller area to FR in, although in late Autumn, Winter and early spring when everything has died back and they can't do much damage, mine have access to the entire garden.

I just keep lobbing cabbages and dandelions collected form next door's weed patch into their enclosure to keep then happy.
