Rosey Supposey
Hi, I'd be really grateful if anyone has any ideas with this! I'm down to 2 hens. Both free-range all day and are elderly ex-batts. Sandy (generally healthy, bouncy hen) spent all yesterday evening with her right eye shut. There was no nastiness and no sign of anything in it, she bounced around as usual - just with her right eye closed. This morning she came out of the Eglu with both eyes open and there's been no sign of the eye problem recurring. Now the other hen is doing it! Chatty (who's never fully recovered her sparkle since a bout of Infectious Bronchitis a few months ago) has been a lot slower and sleepier lately. I put it down to old age, but now she's keeping her right eye shut! Again, there's no sign of any nastiness in it, and it's not impeding her generally slow getting around the place, but why did Sandy shut her right eye yesterday and Chatty today? Any ideas would be really gratefully appreciated. Thanks
Plum
Wondered if there is pollen blowing around that could iritate them
Rosey Supposey
Hi Plum, Pollen is a possibility. There's nothing much in the garden pollen-wise, but given the weather and the neighbours' gardens, it could be a cause. I tried to get the hens into the vets this morning, but the only two chicken vets anywhere nearby have both gone on annual leave this week! Bah!
