Crowing hens - what can we do ?

Recommended Posts

Arggghhhhhh. One of our hens is driving us nuts. I think she fancys herself as a bit of a cockeral and has started crowing at 4.30 in the morning. We have 7 hens in total and deliberatley decided against a cockeral because of the noice factor. They are free range even at nihgt (they roost in the pine tree at night) tonight we have locked them in their coup though to see if it makes a difference. Does anyone have an idea as to why she may be doing this. If she carries on we will have to get rid of her as we will have complaints i'm sure.

One of the more knowledgable people on here told me that sometimes if there isn't a cockerel in charge of the flock, one of the hens will take charge and this may involve crowing  Our "hen" that started crowing in the morning turned out to be a boy  Oh the joys of chicken keeping
