treehousechicks
I have one hen brooding - day 13 all going well so far, but one of my other hens is now wanting to brood but I do not have facility for her too...... So i was told a good way to stop a brooding hen is to dunk her in cold water. My problem is how???? How long? Do i submerge her completely? How many times do i need to do this? What time of day should i do it? Can anybody help with this or another way to stop her brooding Look forward to replies. aimee
Forge Cottage
Is that dunking Gingernuts? Sorry, I can't help, but good luck... If I get them anywhere near the washing up bowl they go beserk!
Egluntyne
You would be better off putting her in a dog crate for three days, as described in the article on Broody Hens in the FAQ section. Dunking is a faff and doesn't have a great deal of success.
Sheilaz
Is that dunking Gingernuts? Very witty! Don't have much experience to answer the question, but to say that the water should be cool, not icy cold, and not completely submerged, the idea is just to cool down the undercarriage. I'm not keen on it myself, maybe have a read around for other ideas? All the best.
