Hi im Rhys

I have had chickens for a year now and have decided to get a pair of bali crested runner ducks tomorrow. We have enough room for them and their house is set up. I know they are messier and they need water but I would like to know if anyone has any other information that they would like to know since it is my first time. I know they are hard to sex but I hope i either get 2 girl ducks ( dont know the name ) or a male duck and a female duck.

Thanks

Hi again at 8 weeks they will need to eat grower pellets and then when their about 15 weeks you can move them on to layers the drake will make a croaky raspy noise and will not quack the females will quack and can be vocal it can be hard but the breeder should know what they sound like hope this helps also if you get girls do you have good neighbours as they can be loud leanne.

Yes I just spoke to neighbours. They are an old couple but love our hens we have and are perfectly happy to have ducks next to them.

And ok i will keep an eye out for the noise ( or ear) and we are getting growers pellets for them when we go there.

The breeder specialises in chickens really. He is new to ducks. He got given the breeding pairs because his neighbour wanted to kill them at 20 weeks so he saved them.

Yep, listen out for louder quacks - not raspy.

The males tend to be the ones that look more show-offy  Brighter colours etc

I think yours are white though?

Drakes also have curly tails - so avoid any with a curly tail :D

The ones are darker with different colours. I will listen out and look out for the males then.

I just can't wait now so excited and over the week we will build them a proper raised swimming area so they can have more room. I know they wont need much. thanks.
