Mollie333
Yayyyy! I'm so happy. My mum has finally agreed, once the WIR is finished, that i can hatch some chicks under Effy. She is broody at the moment, but im afraid she wont be broody when i can hatch. Shall i break the broodyness? and hope she goes broody in about 2 weeks? she is bald underneath . also what can i put in the water to help feathers grow back. ? also, any breeds you reccomend? meezers
I would break the broodyness now, otherwise it's a long time to expect her to stay broody and then sit on eggs for 3 weeks. If she's anything like my silkie, she will go broody like clockwork- Muppet had 3 weeks broody, 3 weeks not broody but not laying,2 or 3 weeks laying and then broody again - I could guess more or less to the day when she would go broody. I wouldn't worry about the feathers- she'll only pluck them again when she's next broody
Mollie333
she wont break. tried several times. shes stuck there. eating normally and is still a plump little pekin, i gues she'll be ok, im trying to break it, though. i could always get a incy. Lewis
You'll need to get a separate coop for her away from the others while she's sitting and for a few weeks after they hatch, or will she be in one of the coops the others are in now? - I'd break her and hope another will be broody in a few weeks If you think the WIR will be ready in 2 weeks, you could always set some eggs under her now ... 'cos they take 3 weeks to hatch Buying an incy will be expensive, and you'll also have to buy a brooder, heat lamp/electric hen and then have to keep them inside for 5/6 weeks .... using a broody seems more special too

Go through and see if any are on your want list, then get rid of any that wouldn't suit your set up/are like the ones you already have. Mollie333
Oh i'm good at copy and pasting . I like the sound of Buff Columbian Orpington and Lemon Cuckoo Orpington, but in no way could i keep them cause i apparently have not got enough room. So medium sized or banties for me! Blue Laced wyandottes look nice, too. well she normally has more stock when i get there so ill just wait and see what happens, ill probably come back with some that i didn't have any intention of buying, as for quail.. well no i don't think i want quail.
