cooker
Our joan I think might be on her way out. She is 9months out of the battery cage, she had become a fine figure of a chicken, really fat! but we've been away for a week and she looks shocking! she has had loose greeny/yellow stools, I have given flubenet in the feed, but coming back from holiday it is obvious to see she has shrunk, she's tiny now and looks hunched up. Her comb has gone really floppy, what does this mean?? I am half wondering whether she needs to be put out of her misery, but she is eating, although shes always needed a bit of encouragment with pellets, she prefers porridge (I just make it with warm milk, few oats and then pellets+crushed egg shells, its basically soggy pellets) shes not been getting that whilst we were away, and is eating it now, so I have my fingers crossed and am hoping a bt of last minute nourishment will wake her up! any comments/suggestions greatly recieved! ...although vets is out of the question.. Christian
Hunched up and withdrawn is a classic sign of an unwell hen. Bring her indoors to keep her warm and see how she gets on. If no better later, I would recommend a trip to the vets - kinder than letting her suffer.
