Wrong feed - Is it a problem?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have been to the pet store over the weekend to buy some chicken food but bought mixed corn. (a huge bag of)

I thought it would have layer pellets in. I was wrong.

My question is will this be OK to use as it is, or do I need to use layers pellets, or would I be better getting some layer pellets and mixing the two??

I'm a bit worried that I have just read something on the internet that says corn should only be 10% of their feed. Is this right?

Hello. Mine have mixed corn along with layers pellets. a sac normally lasts me 1-2 months and a sac of corn normally 2-3 months depending on how often I give it to them (I also put it at the top of their troff feeder- as it comes out the bottom- so that if it runs out before I'm in the run that day it keeps them going a little longed if that makes sense) but back to your q, I would get the layers pellets as well.

yes its not ideal to feed corn on its own, most 'mixed corn' you buy is mostly wheat though, as a foodstuff on its own its not great but you can mix it with pellets to use it up (no more than about a third mixed corn) - expect a few less eggs though
