chooklady
We've been getting quite a few soft egg lately and thin shelled eggs so I've bought some limestone flour which has just arrived from ebay. I have 2 x 5kg feeders. How much would I add to the food and do I stop adding it once the shells are good and strong again? Many thanks for your advice. Egluntyne
I add a desertspoonful to a full grub, which I guess holds a kg or so of food. I also coat the pellets with a little cod liver oil, to help the limestone flour stick, and the vit D3 contained within it helps with the metabolism of calcium. To your second question - yes, I would stop adding it once the shells improve in quality.
chooklady
Thanks Egluntyne, I don't have cod liver oil at the moment. Can I use something else for now, I have evening primrose, Olive oil, extra virgin olive oil, sunflower oil and some nut oils which would be best? Many thanks
Egluntyne
I'd guess that olive oil or sunflowerr oil would do the coating well enough, but will not provide the Vit D3. It would do as a temporary measure.
