Feather pulling - at my wit's end

Recommended Posts

Despite trying beak rings and bumper bits, I still have 2 girls getting balder by the day - one almost looks like a battery chicken.

I'm so worried about them as we're going away soon and they'll be spending 2 weeks in an eglu and 3m run, which is a much smaller space than they're used to - being confined will make things worse and I dont' know what we'll come back to :(

So onto bumper bits, I've tried a 'standard' 25mm one which she still manages to get feathers out with and also a longer 35mm version which looks huge and has hangs off her beak by almost a centimetre but she definitely can't grab feathers (or anything off the ground or out of a standard gravity feeder unfortunately). Is there an in-between size ie. 30mm long? If I can't find anything else, she'll have to wear the big one as I can't bear to think what'll happen otherwise.

If anyone has a different size bumper bit I could try I'd be happy to pay for it and provide envelopes / postage.

Thanks so much.

Have you tried spraying them with anti peck spray? I had to do that to some of mine, it's the most unholy smell and stained my Light Sussex feathers brown for a bit but it seems to have worked.

Sorry I can't help with the bumper bit, I know a lot of people get them from Wernlas, can you give them a ring in the morning?

Thanks so much for your replies, it helps to know I'm not the only one with girls that look 'second hand'!!

I've found a gamekeeper website who do 30mm bits, they're send me them asap so I'll let you know how I get on.
