Prince55
Hi i wondered if anyone could please help me, i have had my 4 girls (1 Domino Ranger, 1 Blacktail and 2 White Stars) for 3 weeks now our 2 White stars laid after 10 days at 16hlf weeks old and i mean good sized eggs everything has been going smoothly the girls free range for 3 hours on an evening not during the day as our 18 month old silver lab has had a go at 2!!!!!! > However my husband had a very serious bike accident last fri and my neighbours have been looking after our girls since then as i don't drive and i am staying with my husbands parents, we have been across numerous times during the week to clean them and give them treats and general health checks ETC as i am only 30 mins drive from my house. But today my next door neighbour phoned and told me that 3 of the girls have pecked our Blacktail quite badly during the morning and she is bleeding so she has taken her guinea pig run in (which is a fair size for 1 hen) and taken Scarlett out and put her into this. I have an eglu classic mark 2 with a 3 metre run attached however i have no other way to seperate the girls we have a big concrete shed and i didn't know if i should put her in this on an evening and during the day until she heals and i can take the 2 White stars out for 48 hours to reintroduce as i unfortunately can't be there as of yet!!!!! What do people suggest? i thought it was a bit tight doing this but the guinea pig run has no shelter or anywhere for her to nest whilst she recovers!!!!!! What do you think? Please help thanks so much Zara xxxx
Egluntyne
I think it was a sensible precaution to take util you can assess the situation and treat any wounds. You could separate off a secion of the run for the injured hen, by diividing it with garden canes as ilustrated below. That way, they would still be in sight of each other. Sounds as if because a couple of them are laying, the hormones are surging and there has been a shift in the pecking order.
Prince55
Thank you for your quick reply x What will i do about her roosting at night times and getting in to feed them all? As unfortunately i can't be there on an evening due to my husbands accident as i need to go back and fourth to the hospital thats why i was worried aswell as i obviously don't want her to die xxx I like the idea of the canes though it is very good x

Prince55
Thank you for your help unfortunately when i went home on friday Scarlett was so badly injured she needed to be culled bless her it is amazing what the nasty little things can do to each other in such a short space of time So we are now down to 3 however telling my husband after coming round from having his arm plated was quite funny to watch as he didn't know where he was anyway bless him haha he looked in shock!!!!!!! I have brought the anti feather pecking spray and sprayed the other 3 (by the way does that stuff wash off in the rain as my 2 gorgeous pure white girlys now have brown tails !!!!!! ) and fingers crossed it has not happened again as of yet x I know what you mean about the smell though it is rather funky heah haha x
