bennett
My pekin has been broody for weeks now so last week i popped 6 fertile eggs under her and she is sitting fine and no problems but she has been laying every other day too! So i noe have 9 eggs under her. Is this because she is trying to make a decent size clutch? Should i remove them when i take her off the nest for her break! i am very confused as everyone says that hens stop laying when they are broody!? Redwing
broodies should stop laying yes. Remove any new egges leaving her only with the original ones as otherwise they will have different hatch dates - this would make it hard for the hen to look after chicks whilst still sitting on eggs
bennett
HI Thanks for advice, she is not running with a cockeral so any eggs she lays are not fertile, but i did remove them last night and then i found she has layed another egg today when i took her off the nest for a break. I am puzzled however i obviously have a super efficiant hen! They say that Pekins are great broody's but laying at the same time! You can tell she is a girl as she is multi tasking!
