Redwing
Is there anything I can do to keep bees away from somewhere? I keep some of my chickens in a stable with a mesh door. Afer letting them all out for a run around I went to lock them up but couldnt as there was about thirty or so bees hanging around the doorstep area I had to wait an hour or so for enough bees to disperse for me to lock the door but noticed that they were back in force as I left There are one or two holes in the concrete below the doorstep so I am guessing there are some hollow areas - would bees nest in something like this? I didnt think to check the rafters - could they be up there? I did throw some water out of the stable on to the concrete - could the bees have been attracted to the water maybe? There was nowhere near enough of them to make a swarm or anything but enough for me to be worried about going too close!

Yes bees will be after water, so that will not have helped. Have a look around incaase they are in the rafters.
Olly
It could be the water, but I wonder if these are masonry bees, who would nest in holes in concrete. If so, they are solitary bees (although you've got several of them) but they're unlikely to cause you a problem - they don't usually sting unless you squish one. No reaaly an issue. I have someone phone me today with a very similar problem. Although there are things to help attrach in swarms of honey bees, I am not aware of anything that will detare them?
