GAT
Hi new here altough been reading the site for a while i have had my two chickens for all of 2 months now and was just wondering if i am using the right things. i have rapport for the house and run i notice it has citronela in/on it is it ok if they eat bits of it does it effect the eggs? i have garlic granuals but made for horses how much should i give them? does the flavor go into the egg i have apple cider vinager am i right this is used 1 week in four. i have been giving them cod liver oil in there mash as i had soft eggs which seems to of helped the problem but is one teaspoon a day too much. i have now noticed that i might have red mite, only a small amount i have steam cleaned the hutch and have brought some poultry shield and red mite powder, is the poultry shield very smelly do you have to wear protective clothes mask etc i think it said it was non toxic but then has a warning on the bottle. can the red mite powder also be put under the bedding and in crakes as well as on the chicken. i know this is a lot of questions but have looked through and i still have these to ask hoping someone will be able to answer some of these for me
Jools
Hi new here altough been reading the site for a while i have had my two chickens for all of 2 months now and was just wondering if i am using the right things. i have rapport for the house and run i notice it has citronela in/on it is it ok if they eat bits of it does it effect the eggs? I doubt it i have garlic granuals but made for horses how much should i give them? does the flavor go into the egg I sprinkle a bit on top of their pellets roughly once a week - no noticable change to the eggs i have apple cider vinager am i right this is used 1 week in four. Some use it at weekends, others one week in four (I do the latter) i have been giving them cod liver oil in there mash as i had soft eggs which seems to of helped the problem but is one teaspoon a day too much. Probably, but I'm not sure. I'd say once a week or so would be okay now you've got the problem sorted. i have now noticed that i might have red mite, only a small amount i have steam cleaned the hutch and have brought some poultry shield and red mite powder, is the poultry shield very smelly do you have to wear protective clothes mask etc i think it said it was non toxic but then has a warning on the bottle. can the red mite powder also be put under the bedding and in crakes as well as on the chicken. I didn't think Poultry Shield was toxic so I don't use any protection, but don't take that as gospel! Yes to the red mite powder question. i know this is a lot of questions but have looked through and i still have these to ask hoping someone will be able to answer some of these for me I've responded above (in blue) - hope it helps
