A LOT of soft shells

Recommended Posts

Hi can anybody help, at the moment my ex-bat hens ( I have 11) are laying a lot of soft shells, maybe 2 or 3 a day? they are on layers pellets mixed with corn, we added oyster shell to it, we have had them on tonic drinks but it doesn't seem to be working? any ideas?

I'd just give them the pellets with poultry grit and leave the corn out, as it is not particularly nutritious and will crowd out the good stuff.

I would also cut out ant other treats and limit their free ranging for a while.

You could try adding limestone flour and cod liver oil to their pellets. The oli will make the flour adhere and its VitD3 content will assist with the calcium metabolism.

Have the hens been wormed?
