patsylabrador
I'm not watching the football and am too hot to do much else so I've been trawling the internet to try and identify a bird in the garden. I haven't got much to go on but I thought some of you might recognise the following. The main thing I can describe is it's call which is a loud wheep noise which goes down at the end and is slightly drawn out. It's between the size of a sparrow and a blackbird. When it flies it's silouette is long, I mean it doesn't fan it's tail out so it's a bullet shape. It doesn't flap it's wings much but does a sort of soar with it's wings out then tucks it's wings in and swoops. It would be brilliant if this means anything to anyone, it bugs me if I can't identify what is in my garden!
WarrensWorld
Pied Wagtail (Motacilla alba yarrellii) Long outline and a dippy kind of flight?.
patsylabrador
I'll check that out. I hadn't thought of those as I think of them as car park birds and never see them in the garden. That would be logical though as I didn't recognise the sound at all. I had also heard what I thought was a bird of prey which turned out to be the call of a lesser spotted woodpecker which I was very excited to see at the bird table a few weeks ago. Thanks for that.
