miss_spent
I have had my quails 2 1/2 weeks. One I know is female from her colouring and the other I am not sure about as it is a white colour, but I was told it was female. I have had 1 egg from them in 2 1/2 weeks (on day 1). They are eating budgie leftover seed and layers pellets with occasional greens. What could be stopping them from laying? They seem quite lazy and spend a lot of time sitting in their 'nest' - a rabbit nest thing from PAH!
Chickybocker Glory
Hi, maybe they are just younger than you thought they were? If that's the case, then they will spend a lot of time resting. Have you had any more eggs though?
miss_spent
I did wonder if they might be younger than I thought. We only have one now as they had a fight and one was too badly injured and died. The remaining one is definitely female from the noise she makes, and hasn't laid yet, but maybe recovering still as she received a head wound and possibly only has one eye now. I don't mind if she doesn't ever lay, but might have expected it in this weather! 1 egg seems a bit of a poor show!
Chickybocker Glory
Oh dear, it seems you are not having a good time with quail. My 4 seem very happy in their green eglu. One started laying within 4 hrs of delivery and has laid most days since, and 2 more have laid today! Only one to go. Maybe the Italian quail are calmer? I got them from Omlet - very happy with them. Ultra cute and quite tame.
beach chick
we're having a similar problem at the moment. we started with John & Pauline Prescott - she has been laying for the last 3 weeks or so; added 4 other girls about 10 days ago, and have had no eggs for about a week now! I'm pretty sure the new girls are girls, because it's a very harmonious group, and John is cock of the walk... I dont think they are eating them because seen no signs of any mess or anything. they are in an eglu/run on grass; plenty of water and layers pellets. any ideas??? I'm just about to add another 5 new girls to George, our other cock, and I know they will be young, but I think the current lot should be old enough to lay.
