My eco solution to rat problems

a) is there a proper name for a 'swarmcatcher' ? (ie designated person in the club who collects swarms from round and about and distributes them to people on the list)

b) how do you transport a swarm in a car?

c) are there any public liability/being sued type issues if you perform this service?

a) Call them whatever is appropriate.

 

b) I a well ventilated but sealed (to bees) container.

 

c) Too true there are.

When I caught one earlier in the year I wrapped the cardboard box in the sheet that we'd laid underneath it, and put it on the back seat - that was ok for a 20-minute drive. Once they're in, they will generally stay fairly quiet but you don't really want bees flying round the car while you're driving.

B) like the others said anything be tight. I was told a skep ise useful to actually catch the swarm in

 

c) there always seems to be some way to get caught out if you are helping someone else!
