Is Eileen coming back?

Recommended Posts

I am worried that Eileen is poorly and gone into the nest box to die which is what happened to my other chicken who prolapsed.

Eileen laid a softie in the nest box on friday and yesterday when in the run the others were chasing after her pecking her behind and a shellless egg came out which the others ate.

Today she has been standing funny with her eyes closed all puffed up. wasn't interested in salad leaves and when I picked her up to look closer at her clear liquid came out her vent. I have put her back in the run and she had some cat food but now she has gone up the nest box very gingerly and im not sure she is coming back. Idon't want to disturb her but is there anything i should do today? will take her to the vets if she is still bad tomorrow she has been up there for over an hour which is unusal at this time of day.

Im sorry that she is unwell - such a worry arent they! :(

TBH I would leave her for now and see how she is in the morning. If you are unsure how much she is eating and drinking you could always seperate her for the day and give her a different supply of food & water.

Also give her food high in water content such as cucumber.

Keep us posted to her progress and even though its hard try not to worry.

Good news Eileen after being in the nest box all afternoon is up and about this morning looking better. She even laid an egg it was quite big and the shell is much paler than normal but hopefully she is back to normal now. There was some goo in the nest box before she went to lay so maybe yesterday afternoon she laid something strange but the others have probably eaten whatever it was!

She had me worried for a while but fingers crossed she is better!
