shoura
I left the WIR door open while the girls were in the garden yesterday (usually I close it so the dogs don't get in and eat chicken poo! ) When I went to put them back in the run there were 3 magpies inside it !!! Great panic and flapping ensued but they don't seem to have done any damage---they had spotted the food I suppose but I gather they can also eat hens' eggs? WitchHazel
Yes, magpies do steal eggs. We lost a nmber of fertilised eggs from a coop on our allotment. At first we thought it was one of the chickens, but when a couple of dummy eggs went missing we realised it was a predator. We set up a camera in the end, to discover whether it was magpies or rats. It was magpies. We put up a "curtain" of chains over the pop hole, and that seems to have stopped it. (Our allotment coops are wooden).
