What is she doing?

Recommended Posts

Hi, One of my exbatts Josephine has never laid an egg since she's been with us (just coming up to 4 months) but otherwise is fine and healthy. The last two days she has come out of the eglu in the morning, and when I've come home later in the day she has retired to the nest box. Have just come home now and there she is. I have removed the eggs but someone has laid outside on the floor of the run as presumably she wasn't being very accomodating about letting anyone in to lay.

When I opened the eggport I got told off and when I tried to turf her out of the nest she pecked me viciously so I have left her in there until I work out what to do.

My thoughts are she might be broody? She has never to my knowledge laid an egg - is it possible for her to be broody but not laying?

Is it better to get her out of the eglu and shut the door to prevent her going back in or will this distress her?

Or, is it better to just leave her in there?

She seems bright and chirpy in the mornings ( allbeit she is very grumpy now)

Any ideas?

Thanks

Suzy

That's exactly what she is doing. On the advice of the BHWT careline I locked her out of the eglu today. She was up and about when I got home from work. Will see if that's snapped her out of it tomorrow - if not, out come the gardening gloves and out she comes again!
