MedusA
Having 4 colonies now up and buzzing in our allotment apiary, we have several plotholders interested in finding out more about our bees and about beekeeping in general. We're putting on a talk by a beekeeper from our local BKA on Saturday 21st August at 2pm. We've extended the invitation to other allotment sites and local groups. Friends and family are welcomed so I'm sure I can extend it to any local Omleteers who might be interested.
Lesley
Not too far from us and we would have tried to make it but we can't do that day.........thanks for letting us know though. I think Julian Routh is the person who judges the Stratford Honey Show - he's a great person to give a demonstration.....he likes people to stay for judging and discusses everything he's looking for......very informative. MedusA
I believe Julian does judge Honey Shows, so you could well be right. He is also a seasonal bee inspector in the area. We are very privileged to have him in our BKA. He is a mine of information and I have great respect for him. I also think he looks like everybody's mental image of a typical beekeeper - long grey beard etc.
Lesley
Yes, that's the one! - He was really helpful to us and chatted to everyone that night.
Lewis
Not far from us either - dad was interested in the Beehaus when we saw it at Grand Designs last year + Gardeners World this year ... will mention it. Hope it goes well if we don't make it!
Edney
Arrrgghhh so typical! I've been wanting to keep bees for ages, but due to small garden and young kids I have always held off. The annoying thing is we live on the other side of the park from you, and have been to plenty of the open days and I had no idea you could keep bees there, I would have joined up like a shot!!! Moving house in October so not much use now, but I will wonder over and take a look before I leave. Ed.
MedusA
No worries. I have done a write up on the allotment website and there is a very brief video of Julian's talk too. If you want to take a look, it's here. Hope the move goes well next month, Ed.
