Smudge
Hi Our egglu Go and 2 chickens ( Sage & Onion) were delivered just over a week ago and we've been really pleased with them. The girls seemed to have settled in quite quickly and we were extremely surprised that Sage laid her first egg last Saturday, having been told it probably wouldn't happen for 4-6 weeks. I know it was Sage as I was sat in the garden near their run and she was getting rather agitated and kept disappearing into the egglu for periods. Finally it all went quiet and she seemed to settle down, and I wondered if she had laid so I had a look - there was a beautiful pale brown, perfectly shaped egg (with a double yolk as I had it for breakfast the next morning). We were really excited! It's now several days later and there haven't been any more eggs, and being totally new to this I'm just wondering if this sort of gap is normal when they first start laying? CatieB
Hello. Now I'm no expert as we've only had our three girls a short time and they have only been laying a few weeks but when they started it was all over the place. First a perfect egg, then none for a few days and then I had odd shelled eggs, a good few softies and eggs laid at odd late times followed by more odd shaped ones with bobbled shells and more softies. It seemed like the girls were practising and have now got in the swing of it. I am now getting regular eggs, 2 or three a day and normal looking. I think they have to get settled... no idea if thats right though.
Smudge
Thanks, that's reassured me. It's daft isn't it - we wouldn't be worrying about eggs at this point if we hadn't had that one unexpectedly appear, but now because of it we're suddenly worried that there haven't been any more!
