ISCA
Mariette the Marans has started crouching and this morning when I went to take the feed to them, she was in the henhouse. She came out, ate a bit, popped back in to the henhouse again, came out again after a minute... Could this be the day she lays? Or am I being over-eggcited and may still have weeks to wait? Plum
You'll probably find it in the run
ISCA
Good news! I returned from town to find Mariette was back out in the run pecking away with the others after spending most of the morning in the coop. And on the floor in the coop there was a small dark brown egg It has a tiny hole in one end, maybe where she pecked or kicked it, but it is intact. I have put some dummy eggs in the nest boxes, to encourage her where to lay in future. If Barbara didn't poop in the nest boxes she might be inclined to start using them Mariette was making the most amazing noises this morning, I just knew something was up! It was the first time I had ever heard them from within the house. Hope the others follow suit soon

chicken bark
Wonderful. That first egg is the best - well actually I am chuffed with all the eggs I get. Well done Mariette.
