squidsin
My pekin, Goujon, seems to be going for some kind of world record. It's 5-6 weeks now. I shut her out to eat and drink but she's still lost a lot of condition and her comb is titchy. I've tried separating her into a broody cage but she goes absolutely mental and as I live in a residential area with loads of kids, I have to put her back in the Eglu again to shut her up. I am at my wits' end with her, and considering rehoming her (also as she keeps attacking my favourite pekin, Nugget. Nugget STILL has a swollen face after mycoplasma, three trips and over £200 to the vet later. Arrrgh.) Feeling a bit despairing about it all actually, chicken ownership isn't quite as easy as I thought it would be!
Egluntyne
Could you try the broody cage in the garage so that the noise is muffled somewhat?
squidsin
We're in the city - don't have a garage. I could try the shed, but then I'd have to find a new home for the six bikes and general wall-to-wall junk that currently means you open the door at your peril. scarlettohara
Did you manage to get hold of a cage with a wire bottom ? If you are really desperate she can come and stay in my shed with her cage until she stops (I have a guinea pig run she could go in if necessary). squidsin
Aw thanks my dear - if this goes on for another week, I may well take you up on that! She's starting to come out of the Eglu a bit more now - any chance this means she'll stop with the broodiness soon?
