A few questions about new girls

Recommended Posts

Having recently lost three ex-batts we went looking for some new girls. I have reserved four legbars. (They are now 7 weeks) I hope someone can help as I have several questions:

1. One of the chicks has deformed feet the breeder said we don’t have to take her but she will manage fine. Is this true I don’t mind the look but am I opening myself up to more problems/ vets bills?

2. I could take them now and keep them separate from the big girls. How easy would it be to keep this age of chicken?

3. Do I use the separate run/coop that my husband built for the ex-batts to house them or section off part of the WIR?

4. What age can they go in with the big girls?

I have very mixed feelings, I am excited about having new girls but they are very young. Also the introductions went so well when we got the ex-batts and will we be as lucky this time?

They should be strong and hardy enough by 7 weeks to be fine if you do take them

Yes they need to stay separate, make sure that they cant be 'got at' through any adjoining wire on the run

The deformed feet thing should be ok if she can stand and walk ok, I guess it also depends on how deformed they are but bent toes etc.. are normally ok, if there are toes rubbing together or crossed they may get sore but if they are ok when you take her she will probably be ok in the future
