mrsp10
Hi all, Im new to the forum but would love some advise on caring for my new ex battery hens. We picked two up last weekend and they seemed well to begin with (well, they seemed well for ex battery hens). One of them appears to be bullying the other and when i returned home from work this evening the quieter of the two seems a little unsteady and is only using one of her wings? She was flapping one wing but the other hardly moved. Ive tried to have a look at it but i'm worried about making it worse if she is injured? Would this warrant a trip to the vets or should i leave her and see if she improves. Im new to ex battery hens and not really sure what to expect. Any advise would be gratefully received Thanks Michelle The Original Girls Delia Nigella The Newbies Ginger Olive
hippy chick
Well done for giving some ex-bats a new home and the chance to have a proper chicken life. If you have only had them a couple of days then she could be bruised from being in the cage. You need to carefully examine her, check for any obvious injuries and if you suspect that the wing is broken then you will need to get her to the vet. mrsp10
Hi Hippy Chick Thanks for your reply. This i'm sure will sound like a really dumb question but what signs would there be that her wing was broken? She can move it a little but does not seem to want to open it out? hippy chick
If the wing is broken it will hang differently from the other wing, lower or at an awkward angle. It may drag on the ground. And no its not a dumb question
