Unsecure chicken perches

I've changed to my local supplier but find their chicken layer meal awfully fine (spillers). As soon as the hens touch the feeder, the food flies out. Can anyone recommend anything heavier. Thanks.

I don't know about heavier but my girls are on Marriages and i don't have a lot of waste with it

I use Allen and Paige ex-bat pellets for all of them. That's gobbled up by everyone. And 50p a bag goes to the BHWT.

I feed Spillers Layers Meal...I think I know what you mean but I can't imagine there's mush difference between the brands.

 

Why not make it into a mash by adding water? Just enough to make it into a crumbly mixture, not sloppy. I do this and get very little waste!

 

Alternatively, change the feeder to one they put their heads into (like a cattle feeder) or switch to pellets.

Thanks folks. I'm wanting to stick to the meal so I might try the mash idea. Eggs are still the same so they are obviously quite happy with it. As it's half the price of the original feed, I will persevere!
