Hi,

really upset to have found two big clusters of red mites under the trays of my Cube when I went to clean it yesterday.

I thought they didnt live on plastic?????

Red mite need two things to thrive - birds and dark crevices in which to hide and breed. Any kind of poultry house is a perfect breeding ground I'm afraid.

It's a shame there's such a misconception about red mite and plastic because lots of chicken keepers seem to be finding out the hard way. I don't disagree that it's easier to take an eglu or cube apart to splatter them, but you do still need to have the same routines for prevention as with wooden houses.
