Daphne
We planted some International Kidney (aka Jersey Royals) to see if they'd taste any better than shop bought. The plants grew big and strong and we were full of anticipation. But now we've pulled some they are horrid - completely tasteless; you don't even get that nice new freshly dug potato flavour. We did water consistently and the plants looked fabulous, no blight or anything. Do you think IK are just not worth bothering with or was I sent the incorrect variety? (from T&M I seem to remember). They are quite white in colour.
sjp
IK can be tastless if left to long. for 'Jersy Royal ' spuds you need to harvest early about 10 weeks after planting. personally I don't grow IK or Royal Kidney but to much watering can also make spuds tastless or taste watery.none of my garden grown eating spuds get watered unless it rains. only my pot grown heritage spuds get watered
Tara.F
I agree...sounds like too much water to me. I only ever water spuds as I plant them and again if they start to really droop.
