Alex Higgins

Recommended Posts

Has died at the age of 61.

I used to love watching snooker in the 80's, and Alex Higgins would dash around the table so quickly potting balls, you wonder how he could see what he was doing. He won his first world championship in Birmingham in 1972, at a British Legion club in Selly Park, Birmingham, and his second title in the now home of snooker, The Crucible in Sheffield.

RIP

He came to a local club to do an exhibition and put £50 down as a challenge to anyone who could beat him. My dad did it 3 times! He just said oh lets just have a drink my dear old dad didn't roll in until 6.30 the following morning he got hell from my mum for weeks as he had just gone out for a quiet drink at the conservative club! mind you the 150 came in handy Alex paid up and paid for the drinks all night. A true sporting legend.
