Omlet cube and run

How can you tell when your aubergines are ripe? They're a long thin variety and I have about 3 that seem to have stopped growing now at about 10" maybe. Should I pick them? Would they taste better under ripe than over? I gave them a little squeeze but to be honest they feel exactly the same to me as the smaller ones!

I would have thought that you can pick them at any stage. I have a patio aubergine which has been in the greenhouse, but it wsn't setting fruit so I have moved it outside. I am quite jealous that you have fruit.

Thanks for that. I'll pick them tomorrow and they can go straight in to a moussaka. My ones at home haven't done anything but the ones on my windowsill at work have done really well. It probably helps I can give the flowers a tickle and a prod with a cotton bud any time I feel the urge whereas the ones at home have been left to their own devices.
