migsy
Spike, my unfriendly Speckledy has been spending more and more time in the nest box over the last week. If I try to move her she puffs up and screeches a terrible noise . Today is the longest she has been in there and it is 2.45 and she is still there and I don't think she has laid (although she has been laying every day until now). I don't think she is ill. Does it sound like she is broody? I thought I might dunk her in some water.
Roobaloo
Sounds just like my Magpie last week...definitely broody!! I had to resort to a broody cage and she snapped out of it in 48hrs!! More info: viewtopic.php?f=42&t=14370
JanTheDiver
Definitely sounds broody to me, have had two so far this summer and they have both been like that Did the same as Roobaloo, broody cage but kept mine in for three days and nights, fine after that. Started laying again about a week later
migsy
I have dunked her and sprayed her with the hose but she went back into the coop. I think I will try the broody cage tomorrow. I have an extra large cat box (one of my cats is enormous). If I stand it on bricks would that be OK? How do you know when they are ready to come out and do they get covered in poo? JanTheDiver
I was told to leave her in there for three days and nights and this has worked twice for me. Restrict but don't remove food but make sure there is fresh water. Hope this helps
migsy
Thanks for both of your replies. She is now in the "broody cage" (she got very ). I hope it works.
