Ducks and food???? Clipping???

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what other owners feed their ducks, as the lady I bought them off only fed them mixed corn. Should I be giving them something else too? Also what can I give them as a treat?

Another thing, should I clip their wings and if so at what age????

depends on what age your ducks are mine are 6 wks old and are on growers pellets and i was told by farm shop to keep them on this till 16wks.

I had my 2 clipped 14 wks old by the vet and will be doing the same for the little ones,

i do not need to clip the mum and dad this year think they are to fat to get more than a foot off the ground

Yep growers then layers here.

We don't clip the wings as they have plenty of space here and I always think that being able to fly some might just give them that extra edge if they encountered a predator during the day - just my 0.02$

hi, I have 4 khaki campbells and feed them on layers pellets and sweet corn. They love meal worms and live snails as a treat :vom: as for cipping we have clipped all of our ducks as they were trying to fly and although they were not very good, we did not want them flying into the fence. They can still leap a long way with just 1 wing! Also, because they were all cut slightly differently so it's another way of telling them appart. Good luck :)

Hi

Layers pellets are fine for small ducklings and unless they are likely to harm themselves ie swoop into a road etc usually once mine reach maturity and domestication fully they are too fat/heavy to fly off. You can just clip one side so they are lopsided to fly off that will stop them too.

Good luck donald
